Smita S. Shah, M. D. established her medical practice Alabama Digestive Disorders Center, P. C. in January 1998. Dr. Shah and her husband Saurabh and son, Sanket, have been residents of Huntsville since July 1995. Dr. Shah is the only female Gastroenterologist in North Alabama.

Dr. Shah earned her medical degree from the University of Pune in Pune, India in 1986. She finished her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency from the University of Pune in Pune, India in 1989. She completed her Internal Medicine residency in 1993 at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. She then completed her fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois in 1995.

Dr. Shah is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American College of Physicians. Dr. Shah has served as Chief of Medicine (2001-2004) and as Chairperson of Department of Medical Services (2004-2005) at the Crestwood Medical Center. Her hobbies include music, theater and traveling.
